Looking Forward to the Year Ahead
Now that Christmas and New Year is over and everyone is back into the routine of work and school, we at Reid Quantum are taking the time to think of the charities that need our continued support. 2009 was a successful year for us with the Charities and local organisations that we have supported and will continue to support in 2010.
2009 started with the Great Wall of China Walk in March in aid of The Ayrshire Hospice.
Scott Donaldson, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, went White Water Rafting on the River Tummel in aid of Sense Scotland.
At the end of August we entered a team of 10 for ‘It’s a Knockout’ at Strathclyde Park in Motherwell in aid of the St Andrew’s Hospice… the younger and fitter ones took part!!!
In September, Mark McGill, Assistant Quantity Surveyor and Chris Reid climbed Ben Nevis in aid of the St Andrew’s Hospice.
Throughout the year we also have various staff sweeps in which we have raised money for the MS Borders Club and CLIC Sargent.
Thank you to everyone who gave us their support during these events and helped us to raise the money we did.
Events already organised for 2010 include;
Lynsey Nolan, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, raising money for The Ayrshire Hospice in August by taking part in the London Triathlon and Steven McKell, Quantity Surveyor, plans to run The Paris Marathon for which the charity has yet to be decided.
We also plan to have our usual staff sweeps, which have become so popular that they have expanded to involve friends and family.
We look forward to adding other events to our calendar this year and will keep you updated as to how we get on.

Eastwood Juveniles - Under 9's
Reid Quantum are proud to sponsor Eastwood Juveniles under 9's football team.
Des Boyle, one of our QS's, has taken up the task of coaching the boys once a week, (along with another parent) and in guiding them... hopefully... on the road to becoming better players.
The team consists of players aged between 7 and 8 years old, with games being played on a 7 a-side basis.
They play in a league run by East Renfrewshire Soccer Development Association, in conjunction with the SYFA.
No scores are recorded for games played, as in the eye's of the organisers "It's all about the kids enjoying themselves"
Quote from Des " We have a team of individually talented players, but the hard part is getting them to play as a team. Since the start of the League in early August, the boys have improved significantly. They are now now understanding how team work, and not individual performances have helped them to develop individually and collectively as a team"

Reid Quantum Company Golfer
After the excitement of the British Open at Turnberry, competitions still go on for many keen golfers.
We, at Reid Quantum, are lucky enough to have our own company golfer, Keith Hamilton. He plays off +3 and is constantly playing in competitions to better himself.
He recently won the Hillhouse Cup which is played at Royal Troon.
Other achievements this season include;
2nd Bellisle Cup
2nd Seafield Open
2nd McKinnonwood Cup in Cawder
And a round of 65 at Hagg's Castle which is 7 under par.
He is due to play in the Scottish Amateur Open at Royal Troon next week.
Unfortunately Keith did not make the cut for playing in the British Open..... there's always next year!

Great Wall of China Trek
Just to say a huge thank you for the great support you gave us on our recent Great Wall of China Trek.
With the help of friends and family we raised just under £10,000. Truly overwhelming! In total the trip raised an amazing £107,179.14 for the Ayrshire Hospice.
The Wall is very spectacular with sections of both Wild Wall and Reclaimed Wall and thousands and thousands of steps!!! Although tough going at times, we had a fantastic once in a lifetime experience and made many new friends along the way.
If you would like to view photos of the trip please visit www.hospicetrek.co.uk
Thank you very sincerely once again
Regards
Graeme Reid

Great Wall of China Trek
Graeme and Janie are off to walk The Great Wall of China on 28th March to raise money for local charity The Ayrshire Hospice. They will be joining a group of trekkers keen to conquer the Wall. The task of trekking in one week is around 100kms (62 miles), occasionally at heights and more often with steps and rocky terrain, this makes the Great Wall of China a challenge and requires a reasonable level of fitness. Over 6 days the group will trek various sections of the Great Wall including stretches of Juyong Guan Pass, Badaling and Mutianyu where a lot of work has gone into restoring the wall to its former glory. The group will then move to quieter areas where they will have the opportunity to experience sections of wild wall and protected National Park. You can follow the group’s progress as they trek at www.hospicetrek.co.uk
A recent successful charity event that we have had is our annual Cheltenham Sweep. We had 52 entrants this year and raised a fantastic sum of money for Multiple Sclerosis. I would just like to thank all those who took part over the four days and we will hopefully see you all again for Aintree.
Best Regards
